Hooray! I love to see poachers caught.
False bottom in his trailer suggests he's a long-time cheater. I bet he's complaining about the lousy bag limit laws, seeing nothing wrong in what he's done.

For that serious and intentional a violation I'd like to see some time.
In some states I believe they could also take the vehicle and equipment, right?

thought i heard somewhere that the Canadians could confiscate the boat and contents. wonder if they could also impound the vehicle pulling it? could also been put in canadian jail.
i also think they got off pretty easy. hopefully the wife got the same 10 yr. penalty and can't buy a license.

mutz: "Ten year suspension and $13,050 fine seems fair to me. That’s about $150.00 per fish. I suppose they could have cut off his fishing arm, but that seems a little excessive."
Yeah, let 'im keep the arm. In fact, I'll buy him a forehead tat: POACHER

Some 25 years ago I took my recently acquired father in law fishing where the Detroit river dumps into Lake Erie. I strayed into Canadian waters and both us got slapped with tickets which required our appearance in a Canadian court.
I prevailed upon my father in law not to appear and I would handle everything. As I sat in the court room awaiting my turn there was several other Americans pleading their cases. To a man each one pleaded ignorance and the result was the same fine.
When I was called I told the judge that I was captaining the boat and took full responsibility for being in error and told him that I wanted to assume responsibility for my father in laws ticket as well.
The judge and prosecutor had that easy relationship which occurs after working together many years and the judge smiled and looked at the prosecutor and said "I wouldn't want to get my father in law in trouble would you"
My Father in laws ticket was dismissed........I was very fortunate that day as the pair of officers declined to look in my cooler and write me up for our sizable bunch of fish as well. Whew!

dont know michigan's reg's , but being on a few fishing forums i was surprised to see how many states have no limits on some species and no closed season. i'm sure this individual justifies it to himself . cant remember if it was pan fish or not but this guy showed a pic of his freezer , the style with shelves on the door , all shelves including the door was filled with baggies of fish fillets. and he was proud of it ,
as Miss Molly stated definitely a repeat offender :((

In that case, Mike, I'll buy you a forehead tat that reads: SCAMBLEDl
Wait, that should be my forehead tat. Okay, we'll be twinsies.
Then, as we go into the bush, mumbling, "Must catch bass," TGO will read out tats and hear our words and say, "Scrambled is right!"

QueticoMike: "I don't need a tat on my forehead for people to know my brain is scrambled....haha"
But think of the strangers, the people who don't know us and how much they'll appreciate a heads-up!

Considering the totally premeditated over the top nature of the infraction, I think it warranted a more severe penalty. After all this isn't just a matter of keeping an extra fish or two, or ignoring a length limit. He may even have planned on selling them. That's a lot of fish and I wish they would have thrown the book at him. After all, it is theft plain and simple.
So many fish,so little time

Agree,it wasn't like just 'ONE EXTRA' fish. He must of planned his doing and probably been doing it for 20 years.

Couldn't agree more! For some reason some people in this world do not believe the rules apply to them.
