My wife and I got back a few weeks ago from our first trip to the "center" of the park. We took a long day trip from Malberg to Makwa and saw the super clear water, great cliff face, and even caught some trout! Perfect day trip.
I'll post a picture or two when I'm on my computer.
Glad you had a good time. Reading your post gave me deja vu, as my wife and I just got back from our first trip to that area too. We went in EP#37 Kawishiwi Lake, went up to Malberg, day tripped and fished to Fishdance and back. Then up to Boulder Lake and stayed for 2 nights. Then a rain and mud slog through Ledge, Vee, fee, Hoe, Elton and up to Little Sag. It was a light rain all day, but calm and warm, and we were treated to a hissing show from a family of otter on Hoe lake right by the cliff on south shore. They even escorted us out of the area after watching them for 10 minutes or so, hissing at us and swimming around us at a safe distance. Then as we finished lunch at the middle camp site on Elton, which has at least 8 Showy Lady slippers right in camp, we were paddling to take a look at the north site, when we saw a cow and calf moose come out of the water on south shore and walk away into the alder! Our daughter was in Costa Rica and had the waterproof camera so we didn't get photos that day due to rain. I really am getting away from photographing everything anyway, and the moose instance was a great example, I would have missed the 30-40 seconds we saw them scrambling for the camera. So nice to just take it all in and I can play it over and over again because I did nothing but relax and watch. Am I rambling again? Anyway, we stayed at site #814 on Little Sag fro 2 nights, then back to Malberg and out. What a trip! Also was my first mid June trip and had a blast with all the turtles coming into camp and digging holes for their eggs and all the beaver activity. I will be going this time of year more often. Mike
