In the boundary waters I use Mackenzie, except I also take the border route guide when hiking that. Outside of the boundary waters I use whatever I can find. I luckily have a plotter at work that prints color pages up to 42" so I can print large maps for planning purposes without buying a bunch.

One thorn of experience is worth a whole wilderness of warning

Currently focusing on my SHTy hiking plans - so using the SHT maps.

For BWCA, I've heard Mackenzie are more accurate?

IMHO, the Voyageur maps are too small a scale for BWCA hiking trails. Sometimes the trails can be hard to find, and having enough detail on the map to take a bearing or two can be really helpful. I always use MacKenzie, largest scale and most detail. I'm sure Fishers would be fine too. But since all the BWCA maps are really made for canoeists, every bit of help you can get is worthwhile.
