I just got off the phone with a clerk from Ontario Fish and Game. Here is an outline of what you need to know:
1) New registration system as of Nov 2018 and you will need to register.
2) You will want to verify that you have only one account with them because it is illegal to have more than one account. Over the years I somehow registered three different times. That can result in a fine.
3) Said clerk was very helpful in making the necessary changes.
4) My error would not have been discovered by me except that there was a glitch in the system so I initiated a phone call. If you are uncertain, I suggest that you call to verify or you risk running afoul of Canadian law.

I sailed through the process in January, 2019. So I guess I was lucky. I did already have an outdoor card that didn't need to be renewed for this year .

i haven't had an outdoor card for a number of years. so, when/if i try to get another i should call first? i'm sure i've shredded my expired cards and honestly don't remember setting up an account to get one the very first time.

Nah, just go online and register, it is simple. You didn't have to set up an account before, it is new this year.
