Hi
I thought I would share a bit of enthusiasm about a Christmas gift that I ordered for my son (came in the mail today).
I ordered map AN1 (laminated) from McKenzie Maps Online Store
McKenzie Maps
The map is a reproduction of an antique 1928 map many early 1900s canoe country travelers used. Recently, I saw a snippet of that map in Canoe and Kayak magazine. I thought, what a great Christmas gift for those that love the nostalgia of that era.
This is an awesome map, if you like this moldy old stuff

Hmmmm, besides Wetcanoedog, there does not seem to be a whole lot of interest in this post... So, I find myself adding to my own post.
From my studies of that old 1928 map I have found (among other things):
1) a different emphasis on landmarks, like: "sand beach", "ranger cabin", "cabin", "heavy timber", and "Indian paintings"
2) several lakes carried different names than they do today
3) fuel for my fascination with the flow of the Kawishiwi River. In 1928 there was no North Kawishiwi River or South Kawishiwi River. The south branch was called Birch River (present day Birch Lake?). The present day north branch is just called Kawishiwi River
4) An intriguing old route went from Row Lake - Boulder Lake - Jug Lake - Un-named Lake - Bear Lake. On present day maps, I think Bear Lake is Makwa Lake......... this path is contained within PMA #9 (Humpback Lake). That would be a good one to bushwhack, for sure.

although not as old, i like paging thru the old fisher map book... in there you can also see many old lake names that have been changed over the years.
that old map peaks my interest. i wish they would show you a bit more of it though.
