Quetico Mike is an excellent fisherman and his “specialty” is Smallnouth.

He regularly shares his insight on how to catch fish on this site. His postings have certainly made me a better smallmouth fisherman.

I think of him as JediMike. I once happened upon him on a lake in Quetico.

He was swinging a five-pound smallie into his canoe, so I paddled up to him, plopped my anchor overboard, and said, "Let's fish, buddy," and immediately cast my lure over his head.

He seemed a little annoyed. I don't know why.

And he said, "There are no smallmouths in this lake," just as he hooked another five-pounder.

"There are no smallmouths in this lake," I repeated.

Then he said, "You are leaving now."

"I am leaving now," I said, and I did.

As I paddled away, JediMike said something to his fishing partner about how "small minds are easily controlled."

I wonder what that meant.

I'm surprised Miss Molly remembers any of that interaction. I told her, she wouldn't ever remember that she met me on Death Star Lake, and she said "I will not remember ever meeting you."

I must be slipping :) I was probably concentrating too hard on my retrieve. When fishing ZMAN ShadZ it is always best to stay concentrated on the retrieve, they won't hook themselves.....unless I tell them to.... haha

Make sure you have some quality size 3 or 4 ball bearing swivels too. They make all the difference in the world when fishing this lure.
