My uncle finally got his book published and available online. It is about his canoe trip from New Orleans to Nome, AK. Unbelievable story!

Hope you enjoy it! My parents and brother make cameo appearances in the book. I was born when he was wintering in Canada.

Started the book today, am on page 101. I find it to be quite interesting and a page turner, for me anyway.

interesting find... he met a fellow, Tim White, along his travels. Well, I know this guy and he is exactly like the author describes him in the book. The location I met him is not the same place the author met him. He'd have many of his own adventures between the late '70s and mid-'90s when I met him. I won't say more which might ruin it for future readers.

Now how neat is THAT? I'd like to hear HIS story sometime too!

Thoroughly enjoyed the book, but I'd love to know "The rest of the story" after Nome? That was one heck of a trip and one I couldn't have undertaken in my better days.

And......oops, I cannot say any more, I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't read it yet!

Thanks for the recommendation, sounds very interesting. I've ordered a copy and am looking forward to reading it.

He settled in Nome, got married, and had two sons. His wife passed away when the boys were still young. He still lives there, mining gold all summer and doing what retired people do in the winter. He had many more adventures in Alaska after that trip.

Well, I certainly hope one of these winters real soon he writes down some more of those adventures; I certainly enjoyed his first book!

really good read. i didn't want it to end. sure wish he would have spent more time relating his mental state during the last 20 pages or so. there is definitely more to his story, esp if he ended up living in Nome. did he come back to MN and then go back to AK?

i've already passed the book to a coworker with instructions to give it back when finished. he read the first 10 pages during his lunch and agreed that he was hooked. we have relatively short lunches.

i need Beav to write a book.

Agreed on all points. You hear that, BeaV, put it on paper (LOL)!

He did come back to Minnesota for a brief period, then moved to Nome. It was unfortunate that about half of his original manuscript was edited out to shorten the book. I'm sure that there are a lot of missing details in there. He is currently writing a second book about at least one post trip adventure, but I won't spoil it.

oh its irritating that it was edited. editors just don't understand us canoe-type adventures want to know more and more and more! who do we send our comments to so the next book is full length feature?

David Setnicker. I believe he lives in the Tower area. I don’t have any contact info.

Started this a couple nights ago, and I'm about a 1/3 through - he's getting ready to start year two. That's an intense story so far! Terrific read.

How did I miss the initial post? I just ordered paperback via Amazon. This is the kind of reading for total immersion on a long flight. I've got one coming up, too.

Enjoyed every page. I have to admit that his trek up the Mississippi was so harrowing, I would have quit then.

A lot of the muddy Miss didn't sound very fun!

Wow. That was quite a canoe trip. The tone was set from the beginning when he decides to go up the Mississippi. He deliberately chose to do things the hard way.
