No, I'm not making this up. Better plan accordingly if you're intending to drive to the Arrowhead region on Thursday in advance of the fishing opener this weekend:
URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Duluth MN
227 PM CDT Wed May 8 2019
...May Snow Arrives Tonight...
.A large system will cross Wisconsin tonight into Thursday bringing snowfall to northwest Wisconsin and northeast Minnesota. Due to the system arriving overnight, the warm May sun will not play much of a role in impeding snowfall accumulations; therefore, expect snowfall to rapidly accumulate during the overnight hours.
There will be a rain/snow line across northwest Wisconsin where areas southeast of that line will only see rain and northwest of that line will see significant snowfall accumulations.

old_salt: "Some downed trees and limbs should spice up the portages."
That risk was overstated in the announcement, IMO. We barely have buds up here in the Arrowhead, much less any leaf cover that would make a difference.

Agreed. Better yet, I’m in Ely now and yes, there is some snow flurries. Gonna take a lot more than that to stop the fisherman!
