I can't believe I'm writing about this. I think I know the answer, I believe the answer is no. Can I add an alternant to my day use motor permit to Basswood at this stage of the game.

Here I go, and believe me, I'm getting sick as I type this... I think I might have to cancel six day use motor to Basswood via Prairie... also three day use motor for Moose chain. Geez, I'm sick.

The reasoning is my hip replacement was a whopping diaster. Short story is March 29 surgery would have given me plenty of time to rehab and still do the trip. Didn't factor in the April 27 morning operation nor the April 28 night surgery. Now I'm home, injecting antibotics in a pic line three times a day for six weeks. Last dose should be around May 10.

I don't plan to leave till the18th. I'm hoping to be off the walker enough that I can still do the trip, but I'm a smart man. Deep down, I'm thinking I have to cancel. If I'm not noticably better, I am going to cancel all permits on June 15th. Damn, that hurts to say that.

Dates are:
Basswood - Wed 19... Thur 20... Fri 21... Sat 22... Thur 27... Fri 28
Moose chain - Sun 23... Mon 24... Sat 29... that's it.

Sorry about the five minute delay. I had to step away from the computer to cry. I will also be canceling my spot at Fall Lake..... DAMN IT ANYWAY.

That's terrible news, yogi59weedr. Not sure how that could happen, and you deserve some answers, and possibly some compensation.. I would say concentrate on your full recovery, no matter what. There will be more BWCA trips in the future.

So sorry for the setback. That's very rough. Been there and had to cancel plans too and so I know how it feels. The pic line is a bit of a pain but IV antibiotics are so very powerful that it is worth it.

I don't think you can add alternates. But if you can find someone who wants them, you may be able to coordinate so you cancel and they immediately search for that permit. Do it in the middle of the night and the odds are pretty good that it will work out.

If I have to do it ,I would hope someone on this site could use them.
I had already told this guide he could tag along on my 4 boat limit.also told one of the bait shop owners the same thing.
I was also going to let 2 guys from VNO I met at the Milwaukee sports show a chance to go in with me because they didn't get any permits because they were at work getting everyone else their permit......

Awfully sorry to hear that it’s been a tough go.

On the bright side if you forfeit those permits i feel like you’re banking up some good luck for the future. You’d be owed it. One man can only handle so many setbacks.

Good luck with the recovery.

Not really sure about when you cancel a permit, when it actually goes back live.... I'm still waiting on a miracle.
I will just loose my reservation permit cost and not receive a refund.

Yogi, hang in there buddy, I'm with you. I had to cancel my motor permit entry for Fall Lake on May 16th as well. Some lucky angler I'm sure has already snapped up that permit and I wish them luck!

Two weeks ago I got notified we were doomed. We had a trip of four planned and three had to back out. All three are older guys, one mid 50's, the other two are in their 70's. One has health problems. The other two have ailing spouses they need to stay home and care for.

I don't know if it's just my perception but this message board seems to be a geezer board. And I'm not making fun of Yogi or anyone because I'm getting close to that bracket. When I was younger, health was never on the agenda of why people would cancel. It was usually psycho girlfriends or a job that made people back out.

Now it's hips, and hearts. Where have all the young people gone?

Yogi, your health is paramount so you did the right thing by cancelling. The BWCA will be around longer than all of us (I think). So heal up and do it right. Try again next year. Or if you can, go this fall when it's even more beautiful. Sometimes those trips with short notice and/or little planning are the best.

Tom
