I’ll be on the Waiwag River en route from Mack to Kawa Bay likely on June 2nd. How would you guys go about targeting walleye while on the river? Are there likely to be more walleye from Kawa Bay to the rapids, or are they likely to be upstream of the rapids in reasonable numbers as well? I’ve never fished for walleye in a true river like the Waiwag - just spots on the Maligne through the Falls Chain that are more lake like in nature.

I was there last august, and we expected terrific fishing on the Wawiag. But something was wrong, and the fish were not biting. We caught fish, but it was much tougher than usual. It had to have been weather related.

But when we have had success on that river, it's been incredible. The channel is deep, so I'd experiment with depth to find out what depth they are relating to. Honestly, if the fishing is ON, you should not have any trouble. That fishery is amazing.

And, we caught fish all the way from the portage to Kawa Bay. There was no pattern, they were everywhere.

Thanks for the information! That’s reassuring. I’m ready to be out there going after the fish already!
