Wondering if anyone has ever hiked back into Wolfpack Lake which is located straight west of Upper Pauness. Maps show no hiking trails going back to this lake but on google earth there appears to be an old logging road on the south side of it. Curious if anyone has been back in there or if they have any info on it.

I haven't. I've been up 199, the road about two miles to the west of Wolfpack, but didn't make it there.

Are you talking about the "road" you see south of the lake? That smooth green area is a spruce bog, and the road is an old winter logging trail. The bogs freeze in the winter, so loggers used to use the flat bogs as good places to build ice roads. So it might be pretty wet, and would dissappear on higher ground where trees grow faster. Those old winter roads last for years and years, which makes sense because there hasn't been logging in the BWCA since the 70's. Also, those can appear to be trails on aerial photo but can be so grown in with brush that one is better off bushwhacking alongside the "road".

But don't let me discourage you. I'd love to bushwhack into Wolfpack lake. Hope you try it and report back. But I wouldn't count on a trail.

Stu of BWJ hunts all over that area in the offseason. He has a write-up on the area in every fall issue. You might reach out to him for any intel. Just a thought.
