My grandson age 5 caught with Mom's help a chunky 17.5 inch smallmouth bass. We did not have scales and now wonder about what the weight of this fish was. My guess was around 3 pounds, but would like other opinions. Thanks

That is a pretty safe guess, 3-4 lbs depending how chunky. 18-19 inch range is around 4lbs, 20+ inches for the 5 lb +.

#3 is a very good guess , most chunky 19" are #4 on the nose .
