I’ve searched for this but mostly come up with threads about where to find pouch chicken. Anybody have any favorite recipes they’d be willing to share? The only trick I have up my sleeve is chicken and instant gravy over rice, but I’d love some new ideas. Thanks!

I've add a pouch of chicken to both Knor pasta and Bear Creek soup mixes. Makes for a hearty meal.

Here's one of our favs:

Chicken Curry:

*Package bag chicken
*Olive oil
*one onion
*Curry paste (paste in jar is best, though you could use powder as well). I like about 1 1/2 tablespoons, but the amount is up to you depending on the spice level you prefer.
*Tomato paste concentrate (comes in tube)
*Raisins
*Coconut
*Nuts

Other condiments are good like bananas, apples, etc, but they don't travel so well.
Rice (minute rice would be easiest)

Slice onion and brown in oil. Add chicken and curry paste. Stir to coat chicken. Add tomato paste and some water (1/2 cup or so). Cook for a bit to combine the flavors.

While that's simmering, cook your rice. When it's done, combine it all in the frying pan (or pot or whatever). Add some raisins, coconuts, nuts, etc.

This is a good meal to have late in the trip since it is fairly light and the ingredients keep well.

Gravy mix and stove top stuffing.

I had a packet, different cheeses, and a pizza crust mix left on a last night. Made the dough and pressesd into my JMO, put the cheeses and chicken in. Very good.

Theres a light weightone pot pad thai recipe somewhere that uses chicken packet and ramen noodles.

Gravy and dumpling. Through in some freeze dried peas and carrots and call it chicken pot pie.

Get tired of it and call it rattle snake or frogs legs or rabbit or alligator - since everyone says they taste like chicken.

Pouch chicken is camping velcro its sticks well with just about everything
One of our favorites is adding taco seasoning to heating chicken for taco's
Any of the instant pasta meals is improved with the addition of pouch chicken
During bad weather lay overs we've made chicken chili from pouch chicken
Another is pouch chicken and instant milk, add a bit of flour to thicken and then add water to a bit of flour in a zip lock bag. snip over a corner and squeeze little dumplings into the mix.
Another great one is pouch chicken mixed into instant stuffing with a few dried berries. Place this mixture into a cast iron pie maker and serve with instant gravy

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I think to keep things very simple I may just try out the Bear Creek wild rice soup mix with some pouched chicken. All of the other ideas sound really tempting though, particularly the curry and the instant stuffing idea! Thanks again.

Sounds to me like this is a candidate for something to use the reflector oven to make.

I'm somewhat basic. I get the various rice mixes, or soup mixes, and add in the chicken.

3 T corn starch
2 t dry onion
1/2 t turmeric powder

I’ve been on the hunt trying to find pouch chicken. Who sells it? I used to see it at Cub, but not recently. Need it for next week’s trip. Any brand to look for? (or lookout for!)

One of my go to trail meals is the Zatarain's jambalaya rice with pouch chicken and a little left over summer sausage from lunch mixed in.

Last trip we did two pouch chicken meals...first was stirring it into Rice-A-Roni's "Long Grain & Wild Rice" ... 3 pouches + 4 boxes and a side of FD corn fed 9.

Last night of the trip we did Thanksgiving Dinner...Stove Top stuffing, instant Mashed Potatoes, FD peas & corn, and turkey gravy with the chicken stirred directly into it. Dried cranberries for garnish. Everybody loved it and requested that we make it a tradition for the last dinner on future trips. 3 pouches + 2 packets of gravy, 2 boxes stove top, 3 pouches potatoes...there wasn't a single bite left over!

I know this is an old thread, but I have to share this. Tonight I made BBQ Chicken Quesadillas, and they were amazing. I mixed canned chicken, a few ounces of BBQ sauce (to taste and consistency) and mixed it well. Added diced yellow pepper and red onion to the mix. I laid a tortilla on a greased pan, put on a layer of shredded cheddar, the BBQ mixture, another layer of cheese, and another tortilla. Even my picky kid loved it. I bet it would work well with Franks Red Hot for Buffalo as well. I always carry this stuff, other than the veggies, in my food barrel for emergency (no fish) meals, except for the veggies that I am dehydrating as I type. I might add some corn and black beans to the dehydrated veggies for a bit more variety. Enjoy!
