Any tips on catching SMB in the fall concerning running water tactics?

Slip bobber rig , and a leech if the water is still fairly warm, or a piece of nightcrawler if your dealing with colder water.

What temp. would be considered warm? I'm thinking 50 and above.

Paddle-troll close to shore in about 10 feet of water. I like to drag a big silver rapala with three treble hooks.

Wewill be heading in at Nina moose the third week in September. Plan to head up to the Boulder Bay area and then over to Iron Lake 4 Basecamp. I appreciate all the great information. and yes Mike we will be bringing four and a half inch flipping tubes in pumpkin color.

Found a lot of craws with blue\purplish\violet colored pinchers last year in the moving water I was fishing, so I'm taking some dark blue tubes with lighter blue tentacles\skirts. We'll see how that works out this year!

we have had success in the fall off the edges of islands , they were very cooperative , hard to go wrong with a rapala and 3 trebles ;)

I assume you know this, doc, but cast to the calm pockets behind rocks and the outside edges of any dropoffs, which you can see by a shift in water color.

I would consider removing 1 of 3 trebles and/or using barbless.
If I troll a 3 hooked crank I remove the front treble.
