We were coming from Kiskadinna then to Muskeg Lake. Couldn't find the portage except for a Beaver dam that trickled down into a boulder strewn Creek. Just as we were pondering what to do a guy comes up the creek wondering if that was the portage. It was. We had to carefully carry boats and gear slowly through the boulders to the end. Difficult. But doable.

Didn't think it was that bad. I guess because it was short. Wonderful raspberries there in 2018! The marsh above the portage was great for birds. Sedge wrens and common golden-eyes there.
I enjoyed the Kiskadina - Muskeg portage. Took my time and divided it into three parts, which I paced off. The walk back for the second load was nice and the view from the top across the top of the forest was cool. Always fun to cross a major divide.

That's the way it was in 2012 when I went through the other direction - west to east. It was even hard to tell the west end of the portage. An ankle breaker for sure, and it had down trees then too. Then up and over the beaver dam. At least it was short as sedges said. I saw a moose in Muskeg creek. It was quite a climb up out of Muskeg with a canoe though.

Here's the beaver dam portion in early July. Part of the portage between Long Island and the beaver dam was dry but much of it was a boulder filled stream. We were staying on Long Island and just out exploring so I didn't have gear or canoe with me. I was glad about that, large boulder filled portages might be my least favorite ones.

By Boonie's photos it looks like there used to be an actual portage trail there at one time. If I go back that way I may knock around to see if it would be usable will some clearing. Though I still liked the raspberries along the creek!

What there was of the portage was on the north side of the creek. It wasn't actually in the creek until you got near the beaver dam. The first picture is the LI end portage "landing". The muskeg end of it was flooded by the beaver dam.

Boonies photos capture the beast. I went through on May 12th and there was a lot of water in the creek which made stepping from rock to rock dicey at best. There was at least one spot where it took two people to get the canoe up, over, and through.
