I just bought a Sawyer Sport canoe - curious about the year it was made?
Serial #8714

Also it has one brace behind rear seat, and one brace in the center, should there be one in the bow area as well?

Those aren't braces they are foam "ribs" in order to add lateral stiffness to the hull.

The two he mentioned sure look like thwarts (or braces) to me.

My bad. Thought he was talking foot "braces". Didn't consider the notion that he was talking about thwarts.

Yes typically there would be one in front to for a lifting handle. It wouldn’t be hard to make and install one. Some aluminum tubing , flatten and bend the ends and rivet it in place.

It does seem like a paucity of thwarts but it seems to be correct except for the missing handle near the bow (as mentioned above). If you look at hanssolo's photo albums on this site there is a picture of a Sawyer Sport in one of the Sawyer catalogs and you can see that it has two handles and one central thwart. Maybe the way the seats are mounted provides enough lateral strength in those areas.

I agree with RedLakePaddler that it is easy to make aluminum thwarts and handles and have done just what they describe.
