I have always done my trips to the BW in mid summer. My buddy and I made the mistake of taking our kids fishing in Canada. The kids discovered that it is easier to fish from a 17 ft Lund than it is fishing in a canoe and have balked at the BW again for their annual outdoor trip with the dads.
The good news is that I am now able to go to the BW moving forward in the fall after the kids go back to school. This way I get at least two northern adventures a year.
I am going in Sept 20. We are planning on going in EP 33, Little Gabbro and basecamping for 4 nights on Gabbro. Relaxing, reading a book, napping on a hammock and fishing are our main objectives.
I do not need any input on relaxing, reading or how to nap. I got that covered!!!
I have never fished this late in the year in the BW. Are leeches available or is that a good bait that time of year? Or should I just bring crawlers or try to keep minnows? I like throwing a bobber out and relaxing on shore while reading. Can't really do that without live bait.
Any input on a campsite that has good shore fishing?

No leeches by that time, but minnows and crawlers would be options. Good time to find the bigger fish, you can always find a rock hump, anchor, slip bobber and read.
German Shorthair Pointers Rule Serenity is found in your mind, not somewhere you seek.

I did a Gabbro 3 day trip similar timing (early Oct) a few years back. We had our most success with walleye trolling raps. We brought minnows and did a fair amount of jigging or slip bobbering with them. We caught some crappie (a few real nice ones) and bass with that strategy - but weren't able to get many walleye that way. We didn't catch anything from camp - but we spent most our time in the boat.

Last year I went in mid sept and was able to get a few small leeches from Lynn at VNO. They worked really well, that was they only place that had any, I'll bet crawlers would work too. I was on the kawishiwii river just east of gabbro, the walleyes were in about 12" of water we trolled cranks until we found them then just jigged with a twister tail. Pike were easy they would bite about anything shiny. We caught a lot of smallies and about 5 or 6 crappies
