My paddling partner, Bonnie (Chick-Wauk museum manager), left on a 5 day Quetico trip yesterday with someone else!!!! Oh well... it's supposed to rain every day of their trip which is too bad. They are going to Blackstone, then planning to do the Man Chain.
I miss up north and being able to drive to all the landings to check things out and then hear about lots of trips. Not sure when I'll get a trip again. but I'm happy she is getting a trip and can't wait to hear about it.

You don't sound too sad about the rain part lol. Why if I may ask why can't you do trips? Either way hopefully the trip goes well and has plenty of stories for you.

I believe I can understand how you're feeling, Mocha. For a variety of reasons, I have been unable to go on a Quetico trip since 2011. Especially difficult was having paddling partners go off on their Q trip in 2012. Hadn't met one person before but three were frequent tripping partners with my husband and me. As in years past, the four stayed overnight at my house and staged and packed in basement, I got up early and cooked a nice breakfast for them and watched them drive off down my road carrying some of my packs and some other of my gear and two of our (my)canoes. I'm on my friend's SPOT notification list and you can bet I looked forward to getting that "OK" signal each afternoon/evening. They stayed here overnight after the trip too, did unpacking and repacking of their stuff and took me out for dinner. I enjoyed hearing all about their trip and asked lots of questions. I will admit to feeling some slight stabbing pains of envy, tho.
I do miss those trips to my favorite place ever ever.

Its tough missing those fall trips. The early spring and fall trips to Quetico were the best.
For different reasons some of us,we have been on hold from making our annual or many trips to Quetico. Lot of fond memories out there.
Like many I hope to get back up there in the future and visit some of my favorite sites.
Those beautiful camp sites will mean much more after a break in not going. Sometimes we take something so precious for granted. Friends and places.
Yes Mocha, hope you make it up next year to your places with your friends.

Hang in there Mocha! Plenty of days ahead for tripping.......you're just a young'un like me! (Ibuprofen induced statement). I'll be up there in 2 weeks and plan to stop at Chik Wauk......I'll tell Bonnie you laughed about the rain ;)
Ginny.....your beloved Huron is going on it's first trip with me. If that boat has things to say, I'll be sure to listen. It looks good and paddles great and it's ready to get wet again. Stay tuned for some photos.

I get it. A long time friend with now adult child, goes without me these days. Younger generation is also going without me these days... and my availability overall is more limited right now... Gotta live vicariously!

I am fortunate enough to have vacation time and the means to do all inclusive cabin trips from here on out.......I don't know if I will ever get in a canoe again, but I will make due with the cabin trips, and creature comforts.
I might get back in a canoe, as I'm turning a corner on some issues......but who knows.
Hang in there....if YOU WANT to make that happen you will........
If not, there are always cabins :) :) .
