Good start... went the distance of the echo trail yesterday. I don’t know about 30%... maybe 20... but coming on pretty fast. I like the beginning stages as much as anything. I was surprised in 2012 when I did my long trip that it wasn’t further along when I came out the 28th. It’s about that far now on the 15th.
I may camp at ft Charlotte a few days and take pics of challengers coming through.

Just came out of Slim last Wednesday. Things are starting to happen but the majority is still in summer hues, but there are definitely pockets of brilliant color too. It feels like the point that every few days will see a big change. it's been four days, by now things have probably colored up a fair amount. Some of the nicest color is in the grasses, bushes and lichens growing near ground level, don't forget to look.

We were in Ely Oct 7-10 last year. Blue Heron B&B. Short paddling outings, Listening Point tour, Wolf Center. Everyone agreed that Oct 9 was the area's fall color peak. Lucky us. Oct 10 brought gale force NE winds. Oct 11th, drifting snow.
We'll be in Grand Marais this time, Oct 6-9. Art House B&B. Doing some SHT sections. Fingers crossed for decent weather and that the colors hang on along the NoShore and Gunflint ridge lines.

old_salt: "We’re up in Cook County September 28-October 6 checking out the colors and looking for our retirement home. I’m sure we’ll work in some hiking and other activities."
Oooh, retiring up north is exciting news! I might follow you there someday.
I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.
