I'll be going on an extensive road trip across the country next spring and am looking into getting a fold-able canoe for two people. Not looking for anything special, just something that would allow us to explore lakes we happen to be staying near, and something that could be stored in the car without taking up much space. Before looking into something new figured it reach out here first.

Thanks!

I have a 16.5' Ally DR canoe that I will sell for $1,500 + shipping.

If you are not familiar with these canoes, they roll-up and fit into a duffle bag roughly 20" diameter X 40" length and only weight in at 45 lbs or so.

The canoes are extremely durable. I purchased two of them for a two week trip down a remote Alaskan river last summer. I sold the older one last year, but I still have the newer one from the trip. The canoe was manufactured in February 2013, but was literally brand new when I purchased it in 2018; it had never been used. We used it extensively for a 12 day trip to the Innoko River in Alaska. You can see many pictures of the canoe on the below trip report published on this website. You will see two Ally canoes in the trip report; the one with the contoured seats is the one that you can purchase if you are interested.

One of the members here had a foldable boat. The member passed away two years ago, but as of earlier this week, the boat was for sale by a family member. I forwarded your email address to that person. Hope that was OK!

Sent you a pm, I have an Ally 15.5 flat water model for sale. Like new condition, comes with a portage yoke and carrying bag. 1,200 dollars. Check it out, I'm in Duluth.
It is set up for soloing but I have used it as a tandem also, its 16 feet long 40 pounds.

Linden,

Your 15.5 Ally for $1200 is a sweet deal! Too bad for me you weren't selling it two years ago when I was desperately looking for a pair of these canoes.... I would have jumped on that deal in a second.

Jamdemos,

These Ally canoes are very nice. The are hard to find anywhere in the USA as they are made in Norway they very rarely come up for sale. Do a search on Ebay for "Ally Canoe" and you will find only one for sale at $2,500.

Ohiopikeman,
I may have to adjust my price if the OP doesn't bite on it.

Yes they are very hard to find, I do not think there are any dealers in the US, I got mine from Canada. It was a display model but had never been paddled, I paid 1,600 US dollars for it, probabally 100+ in shipping to Alaska and the carrying case cost 100 bucks.
It is a nice solo but a little on the heavy side at 40 pounds for me, I'm getting up in age and want to get into the 30 pound range for a solo.
Thats why I'm selling it.

Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis MN is an Ally dealer. They had one hanging in the rafters last time I was there, possibly others in stock? I had already found a barely used 15T including all the parts to adapt to solo, so wasn't "too" tempted...! Good luck, Bryan

Should clarify that the 15T I found was a Pakboat brand, not Ally...sorry.

Bryan,

Nothing wrong with the Pakboat brand; I heard lots of good things about them when I was researching packable canoes for a fly-in canoe/camp/fish trip.

The reason I focused on the Ally is that there are zero inflatable parts on an Ally. As our group was specifically targeting big northern pike (think lots of teeth) with artificial lures with large hooks, we did not want anything that would "pop" when the nearest help was 225 miles away via chartered float plane.

For car camping, I'd have no problem with a Pakboat.

The inflatable tubes on the PakBoat are only there to help provide tension to the nylon skin, and are not particularly important for "expeditionary" use. We lost the valves on half our tubes during a 6 week northern Canada trip last year, and we never identified any problems (could have been prevented). PakBoats are pretty standard for fly ins, are utterly reliable, and have been used on numerous remote, challenging trips. I'm a long-time hard boater, and I was really impressed with them, and wouldn't hesitate to use them again in remote areas.

Mreid,

"....6 week northern Canada trip last year"

That sounds totally awesome!

It sounds as if the Pakboat option would have been a pretty good one for my Alaska fishing trip last summer. There are plenty of distributors of the Pakboat and they are much more available in the used market. If buying new, I've even seen them available through Piragis.

If/when I do another remote northern trip, I'll give the Packboats a serious look.

Don't know if it's still available, but this was posted in August. I really have the hots for it but am not willing to drive from NC to MN for pickup!

Thank you all for the responses and offering up your canoes for sale, at the moment I have actually changed my mind to purchasing a smaller inflatable kayak. Given the size even when packed these "foldable" canoes seem quite large for transporting in a smaller car with months worth of other gear that has to fit.

Thank you
