Looking for thoughts on this loop. The obvious hitter on this is Portage 843 (Rove --> Rose) which is 626 rods.

I've done about 4 trips into the BWCA. The last two were out of Ely, so I'm looking to go back to a Gunflint source. Trip will be with 3 other guys, who might not be as fit as myself ;)

I hear Clearwater is pretty, and the loop has some good options for overlooks and little hikes. My only real concern is my day 2 plan, since it's three portages with no campsite options until the last one, so if it's a shitty day then it's going to be a real shitty day :). I could cut out that portage and go to Daniels, but I do enjoy a challenge, though a nearly 2mi portage might be more fun than I realized when I signed up for it.

Anyways, if you have thoughts on any of the lakes or the route let me know.
Lakes - Clearwater, Watap, Rove, Rose, Duncan, Bearskin and Hungry Jack.

Day 1: Drive
Night 1: Lodge at Hungry Jack
Day 2: canoe short 3.8 miles
Night 2: Clearwater lake after 3.8mi
Day 3: canoe 6 miles to portage 843, which is 2 miles
Night 3: grab a site on Rose lake
Day 4: hang out on Rose
Night 4: camp on Rose
Day 5: canoe out another 4 miles

It is a long portage, but very flat and easy footing from what I remember. That is a beautiful area and Rose is one of my favorite lakes. I say go for it, just don't over pack.

Thank you for you input. I try to keep my food simple and mostly dehydrated and my buddies aren't "bring the kitchen sink" types either. My luxuries are usually some liquor, a book and some cigars :)
