Thinking about Magnetic Lake up the Granite River, and across Sag into Red Rock/Alpine/Seagull. We won't be fishing and are not planning any layovers, but not super early mornings either.

Does this sound enjoyable with only five days/four nights? Got my Goddaughter's son going to Menogyn so our end date isn't negotiable. We could just end on Sag.

I went from Saganaga to the east end of Magnetic in one day last year. Not my best travel day and I left some blood on the rocks on the last portage into Magnetic. Well traveled and the portages were easy to find.

Very doable, but I'd consider doing that route in reverse.

That way you'll be paddling east on Sag and more likely to have the wind at your back on the big water. Though you'd be paddling upstream on the Granite River, there's no noticeable current to speak of, and wind is pretty much a non-issue on the river.

Good point, thanks!

+1 on doing the route in reverse.

My husband and I will also be doing a trip this summer and will time our ending with our son finishing a Menogyn trip.

I've done this route at least a dozen times....but never Sag to Gunflint. Interesting idea.

Two people could do this entire route in a day if they got up early. Your plan sound very good, doable, and leisurely. Enjoy yourself.
