Is Lake Trout fishing better in January or March in the boundary waters? I am thinking about getting to Duncan (Open to other suggestions) this weekend for a two night winter camping and fishing trip which got me to wondering about late ice lake trout fishing.

I agree,
I have fished for them all winter and the month doesn't seem to matter. I will say I seem to have the best luck early in the morning though.

What depths do lake trout tend to be during the winter? Does it change as spring approaches?

I'm far from an expert and some may disagree but to me it doesn't seem like there is a magic depth. I have always done pretty well setting up in 40' to 60' near a deeper hole. I do know people catch them deeper and shallower but I usually start there.

They’re at whatever depth they want to be at. Start deep, then gradually go shallower. I prefer March, because the days are longer and warmer. And there’s less people, as they tend to be sick if winter by then.
