Thought I'd post about ice fishing on Devils Lake last Friday and Saturday. Wow. It was cold. When we left the resort on Saturday morning, it was -19 with -35 mph wind chill. Rough day in tents. We drove 25 minutes from the resort and fished Alice Lake. I guess you can ice fish this portion, but no summer boat traffic allowed. We fished a huge flat 2 ft. of ice and 4 ft of water... wasn't what I was expecting. There were 28 guys in the group. We caught 135 walleyes and 40 perch in two days. The perch guys drove 25 minutes the other way.
Pretty much what we did was jigging raps with a minnow head on the middle treble hook. One guy did spear a 37 inch northern.
The guide gave us the choice of staying at the resort and catching smaller fish or travel for less but bigger fish . We traveled. Most eyes were in the 18 inch range. My biggest was 22. Another guy beat me out of the money with a 24 incher. Biggest perch was a 13 incher.
