The Far North Symposium event is a day where their are 4-8 presentations on trips that people have done, usually in the far north. Usually river trips that are in Nunavut, Northwest Territory or Alaska; Sometimes a trip will be in Northern Ontario, Labrador, Manitoba or in the islands north of the mainland of Canada. The presentations typically give information on how to put a similar trip together. There is always a meet up board where folks are looking for possible tripping partners to go on trips. There have been how to presentations, dealing with all the planning, permits, food, logistics and so forth. For some it is an armchair adventure for others it is place to spark where there next canoeing adventure may take them. Typically time for questions from the audience. The moderator keeps it moving, so things do not bog down..
I have been attending this as far back in the 1980's and it sparked my interest to paddle to paddle a tundra River . It took awhile to get it together but with Bear (who I met at this event) and a couple of others we paddled the Kazan River in 2015. It was the trip of a lifetime I thought, but maybe I will get to paddle more northern rivers and lakes before my body wont allow it.
This year I will be presenting my trip, Sailing to Antarctica and kayaking and hiking on the Antarctica Peninsula. (not north but in the spirit of adventure)
Some vendors set up, Mn Canoe Association, Rapid riders (they have pool sessions going on now during the winter), CCS , and others
