I also paddle the metro lakes with my Northwind Solo. I typically can park close enough to the water that I can carry the canoe that distance without a yoke.

Another option: Can you caft something combining her paddle and some padding such as a pool noodle?

I Have the Northstar Yoke but, only use it when BWCA tripping.

According to Midwest Mountaineering a few days ago, Northstar is closed right now. I tried to buy a set at Midwest Mountaineering on Leap Day, they were out of stock but had eight on order. Have not tried Rutabaga or others online.

Yes, pretty easy to portage nearby. Also need it for a top-water bass fishing trip in June.

If the CL one does not work out, will be making one. I found a couple cool DIY cantilever plans on here. Here is one of the threads:

Making one is really easy. I just traced the yoke from my Northwind 17 and then cut the crevices for the clamps. All done with a jigsaw. Then drill some holes for the pads. Here it is on my NW Solo.

I have made three like this. All wood parts. Email me if you have any questions.

The wing nuts are from a push mower with a collapsible handle.
