I have a 7 day trip planned for the week immediately following fishing opener. Assuming that the BWCA gets shut down or that travel restrictions that are in place would continue and apply, what are good alternatives?
The reason we planned this trip so early is because my buddy I'm going with, his wife is pregnant and due in July. This means that pretty much the entire rest of the summer is not going to work. So, what are some other good options for that long at that time of the year?
One thought was a campground on Lake Vermillion, but now we see that would be worse than going into the boundary waters with a self issued permit. Another would be to go to a cabin and just fish for a week, that might get boring though. How can I make the most of this vacation time that I otherwise might not be able to use?
A river trip down the Mississippi or the St. Croix would be worth your time. Probably better fishing on the St. Croix. Permits are pretty straightforward and both rivers are fun to paddle.
