Another post about trolling made me consider why I miss occasional strikes. The OP stated that often while trolling the fish seem to hook themselves. I don't find that to be the case when I troll. I think I am just slow getting to the rod.

I think the coffee pot gets in the way.

Is there a sofa in the boat that the photo missed?

THANKS for the laugh. My CCC ("Canoe Command Center") gets plenty of side eye in my group. The thing is, I think I have all of that stuff on board while fishing, except maybe the coffee pot and filter...

Loved this post! Thank you!
I have that same style of coffee pot, handed down from my in-laws as a beloved gift. Hands down, it brews the best coffee in the world. Worth it to miss the fish, which I do! Funny that it only brews this coffee in the back country. Can't duplicate it at home. ;)

Those open coffee cups would last about 10 seconds in my boat, then be on the bottom of the canoe tipped over. What happens when you catch a Pike?

The best part of catching pike, is Folgers in your cup! You should make a commercial with that set up.

There is a whole process and a lot of tradition with this set up. The cups are from the 70's. And yes, some spillage occurs. Usually when passing the cup to the bow on an extended canoe paddle. We sneak out of camp at dawn with our gear and the camp coffee pot and maybe a pack of smokes. We'll fish a couple hours before returning to cook breakfast. Great relaxation, conversation, and maybe a fish or not.

The two of us LIVE FOR THIS TRADITION and it is the highlight of our trip!

This is way too much clutter for me lol. Just need a pole and a coffee cup mixed with whiskey and I'm good.

Well then I say fish on my friend. I absolutely love to fish, and I NEED coffee every day. So I get it. You obviously have a system. Fish on...

Priorities look to be nicely in order. There are so many beautiful pictures posted on this site, but that is my favorite of the year. Thanks for sharing the story behind it as well.

Back at camp. 4pm Happy Hour, 5pm Double Bubble, Thursday Ladies Nite.

These two may have been over-served...
