I like these three versions of Preachin Blues
Original by Son House - Original
Bottle Neck John - I like the rhythm section on this one. It's a hydraulic ram pump, that needs no outside power, once you get ity going it's solid rhythm.
He has a number of cool videos using old cars and tractors as rhythm sections.
water pump blues
Larkin Poe's version, lap steel guitar doing the slide part

I liked them all, thanks for sharing.
I just started following Larkin Poe 6 months ago and just recently bought thier last two recordings, they havn't come in yet. They produce their own albums and sell themselves/company (I think?).
They have their own facebook page and it really gets down to the roots of the band in interviews. They do lots of good covers on their facebook page also.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

i wasn't aware of Larkin Poe until you brought them up here. I'll have to check out their Facebook page, I've watched a bunch of songs they've covered on YouTube, lotta talent there.

Ever listen to the Rev. Gary Davis???
How about Hot Tuna???"
Oh yeah, I love The Rev. when he got it going on some of his ragtime bluesy stuff it's hard to believe that it was only one guitar playing. The book, "Say No To The Devil" is really good. He gave guitar lessons to a lot of young players in NY in return for getting him to and from gigs and hauling his guitar around. Jorma Kaukanon of Hot Tuna, Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead, David Bromberg were a few.
Hesitation Blues - The Rev. being religious was conflicted with performing the blues, one of his students said that he felt it was OK to play it if he was teaching it, or if he was speaking the lyrics. This song is spoken and has some pretty suggestive lyrics

Jorma Kaukanon has been doing some free Quarantine Concerts every weekend, Quarantine Concert
My apologies, it's raining and I'm puttin off some boring indoor chores.

Yea, I've read the book. Jorma actually did not take lessons from the Rev. But some of his friends did.
Been watching the Saturday Nite shows as well.
I've been able to get out on the water a little bit in May and June and I'll get out a bit more this summer/fall, BUT it has been the music that has been helping me get through this WWC(world war covid).
Keep your lamp trimmed and burning......
