Just started fishing this summer after 40 years away from it.....and I'll be on Perent Lake in late September. Any chance I'll have luck fishing, or should I leave the gear at home? If I bring it, what lures might be useful? Any info is more than I know right now...

I'd probably leave the gear at home with this survey.

Amarillo that was for Parent, we want Perent. The Perent survey indicates excellent Pike and Walleye fishing. In September, I would at least throw a rod in and a couple of rapalas that get down to 10 feet or so. Jigs and Leeches/Minnows as well would be ideal.

If I could only carry two things, it would be the Rapala F11 Fire Tiger and a small jig with yellow twisty tails. My Fire Tiger ALWAYS lands a Pike.

Supposed to have good walleye numbers in that lake...I'd take a rod. You likely won't find any leeches that late so.....slip bobber and night crawler anywhere from 6-20' deep. Wind blown shores, points, reefs, etc. Take a spoon or spinnerbait and some stuff for pike. I'd assume there are smallies in there so just toss whatever you want. Mepps spinners, etc. Jigs and plastics for anything too

I'd buy a slip bobber and use worms too. It's such a peaceful way to fish until your bobber is pulled down and then it's suddenly exciting. Please do fish! The world needs more fisherwomen.

P.S. - Slip bobbers are little tricky, so have someone at home show you how to set one up and practice it once or twice, so you'll be confident on the water.

Throw in a gold/black Husky Jerk in the 9 to 11cm range and troll it around just offshore in the 15 to 20 FOW range. Go smaller sizes for working in closer to shore. With cooler overnight temps, the fish should move into the shallows much like spring fishing. Deep diving little ripper reef runners in orange, blue and silver work well too.

I hit Perent the last weekend of June with my 6 year old daughter and we did really well on walleye's for the short time we were there. My daughter caught two and she doesn't even know what she is doing for the most part.

We were trolling perch colored (since there are many perch in that lake) Rapala Shad Raps anywhere from 15-20 ft down. We caught our biggest fish in the deep water. we also did good just dragging them across patches of cabbage that were surrounded by deeper water.

Don't dismiss fishing a worm and hook from camp right near the bottom with a bobber. There are some eater perch in there to.

If you're a true novice, first thing is fresh line on your reels. If bringing only one set up, use #10 test and clear.

Keep lures simple. Bass, pike, even walleyes can be shallow if conditions are right, even in the dog days of August, but bring one deep-diving crankbait. Otherwise, I suggest jig spinners and Rapalas.

The Husky is great. It has some weight for a novice to make longer casts. Same with a jig spinner which you can also work deeper by just letting it fall first before retrieving.

...and yes always bring a fishing set up. ;) You might get supper right from camp some evening and all you need is some folded up foil for a tasty supper. ;)

Bring some of theses with you and you will do really well
