My nephew and I are shoving off from Cincinnati tomorrow, picking up a Morningstar for my son in Lakeview, MN, and then heading to End of Trail campground on Monday. We enter EP 51 Tuesday. I need some good eating stops on the way to Grand Marais. This is new territory for me, I have always gone via Ely in the past.

Hope you have reservations for Trails End Campground. It is a very popular campground and this will be a very busy week. If you don't, consider Tuscarora Outfitters bunkhouse if they have one available. They serve a good french toast breakfast, too, for folks staying there. Gets you on the water early.
Food is very different this summer. Many restaurants only have take out. There is lots of good food on the north shore of all varieties. Depending on your timing, there are also some places out the Gunflint Trail. Trail Center, Poplar Haus, Gunflint Lodge and the Trails End Cafe right across from the campground.
Are you going east or west from Missing Link?

Thanks for the input. We ended up getting a room in Grand Marais. My nephew is taking an online class and thought he could get an assignment done via a hot spot while I was driving up from Minneapolis. We will get a good nights rest, up early and then on the water. Looks like it going to be a bit chilly.

If you haven’t done so, find a way to eat the food at Angry Trout Cafe in Grand Marais:

I second this. Fresh caught fish from Lake Superior, usually that same day.

This year, I have been completely bypassing Grand Marais for food. We have been getting take out breakfast from a Duluth Perkins and then eating an early lunch at Trail Center halfway up the Gunflint Trail. They set up a drive-in due to covid, and their food is always yummy. Great people, too!

Thanks for the food tips. We had a good trip and ate at the Angry Trout in Grand Marais, great food. We also got a pizza from Sammy’s in Duluth, great pizza. Thanks again.

Are there any places you can get a decent take and bake or par-baked pizza on the way up from Duluth? Staying in a cabin with a full kitchen on the GFT and thought it would be tasty and easy to have pizza the first night.

We got a delicious pizza from Sammy’s in Duluth on our way home from the BWCA. We got caught in horrible storms in mid Julyand we were running late. They technically were closed but they waited for us. Loved the crust!
