A week from now, we'll be fishing lakes in the Ester and Ashdick vicinity. I would greatly appreciate Local's advice regarding general fishing techniques (late Summer vs early Fall), temperatures, rain, etc. We are coming from Arizona and Chicago-area and not sure what weather forecast to believe. I was planning on lows near 40° and highs in mid-60's with rain at least part of most days. Has this summer been unseasonably warm, dry, etc? I'm bringing a variety of spoons (mainly chartreuse-orange-green in all sizes), spinnerbaits, swimbaits, Ned Rigs and tackle to make almost any type of setup. We're not specifically targeting any one species, simply trying to land some of good size. I'm also trying to decide if bringing an extra tarp is critical. We're planning on several long portages; therefore, weight is a factor. I'm interested in virtually any advice or tips people have. Thanks!

I would bring a container of night crawlers and use them with a slip bobber rig. You can get walleye, pike and bass with this. And a yes for a tarp. They can be very helpful this time of year. If it’s windy you can make a windbreak, rainy you can still be outside under it. As far as an extra tarp, make sure you have enough coverage for your group and gear.

Savage Voyageur,
I appreciate your advice regarding worms and tarp. I presume the weather can be pretty unpredictable. Thanks.

Welcome to bwca.com!

Try Rabbitt Lake for lake trout.

Thank you for the tip. Our itinerary is a bit flexible; it may depend on how we feel after a portage or two (or three. We're probable not packing as light as we should. It's pretty hard to get it down to one pack once food and tackle is added!

your lure selection looks good, the one thing I would add is a deep diving crank for lake trout. You're going to want something that gets down to around 30 feet this time of year.

The weather is highly variable, you could get anything from upper 20s to mid 80s. The weather forecast for next week looks good though!

Thanks for your input; it's very helpful. I did bring a few deep divers. Figured we would try trolling deep while changing locations.
