I’ll be entering at Baker Lake Monday, headed north to find a fish or two. Would it be worth it to bring live shiners or minnows? I got a lot of frozen shiners about 6” long that I’m bringing, along with some live crawlers.

For those who do bring in live fish, how do you transport them? I’m not talking a lot. Just a few for first couple of days maybe. Thanks for any tips.

Any minnow bucket will work. Be sure you sink them deep at night so the critters don’t get them. Put a rock to weight then under, tie a rope to shore to locate them in the morning.

The rules say not to transport them to another body of water. When we have portaged minnows in the past, we leave the water from one lake in the bucket. Then when over the portage, we dump the last lakes water far away from shore and refill with fresh water. Shiners and crawlers will travel well this time of year.
