John Mayer. Love him or hate him?
Here are 3 "sides" John Mayer.
Pop/Sappy John
Blues John
"Dead" John
"Dead John" is my favorite. As a Deadhead, I felt the band was done after Jerry died. All the incarnations never really came close. Revolving Door of great guitarists trying to fill Jerry's shoes, just seemed lacking....Until I heard a Dead & Co performance of Bertha on the radio. The station was promoting a show at Jiffy Lube Live (Weird name for a venue) in a couple of days. I got to work, went to Stubhub and scored 2 tickets 14 row, stage right. They opened with Shakedown Street and I could not believe how good John Mayer sounded. To me, he captured the true Jerry sound and riffs without being Jerry.
Amazing to me...and happy John found Bobby Weir.

Thanks Warft, I always liked John Mayer but was not into him all that much. I guess because of that, I never really knew just how much of an accomplished guitar player he is.
That video of him with the Dead was awesome.

yeah, thanks for posting this. I guess I prefer "Dead" John. I wasn't aware that he had a history with the Dead & Co. He fits right in, must be a good gig for a guitar player who can improvise and do so much. It'd be like how'd you like to jam with us and take a few 3-4 minute solos in a 15 minute song. That's gotta be fun, I've spent the last few days listening to them on YouTube. Thanks again.

New to this forum, had to join when I saw this post. It is not that I hate Mayer, but the Dead, imo, did die with Jerry. He was the heart and soul of that band and the reason it took me 9 years to complete my college degree.
