Looks like you got pretty close. Thanks for sharing the video.

What kind of camera did you use?

I just used my iphone 5. It shows up pretty clear on the phone, but the youtube video is much more grainy. Not really sure why. Was probably 35 yards away or so. Thanks for watching!

Great video. She sure didn’t seem to mind you being there or she would not have gone on with her underwater grazing. She looks pretty heavy, but it’s not the right time to carry calves so far as I know.

Thanks Jaywalker! Yeah, I was pretty amazed at how relaxed the moose appeared to be. It was a really fun experience!

Thanks Big Tent! After the video ended, She hung around for quite a while. It was definitely one of my most memorable moments in the bwca.

That is a great sighting.

In terms of the moose staying around for a while, we have twice seen a moose spend an entire day in a good feeding spot. Once we saw the moose at the start of a day trip from camp and it was in the same spot when we returned at sunset. We don't know it didn't move all day but it definitely seemed to like that spot. The other time, a moose swam past our campsite early in the morning and spent the entire day in one spot within view of our campsite. So we hung out and watched it through binoculars. It went in and out of the water, spent short periods in the trees, and was there when it bedded down for the night. It was gone at first light the next morning.

What a sweet opportunity. I hope this is a sign that the moose population is making a rebound in the BW.

Thanks for posting.

Wow, that would be special to just sit and watch a moose all day. I never realized that they hang out in one spot that long. Thats super neat that you were able to have a campsite with a moose for a view:)

I hope so too, OneMatch. They are such amazing creatures and I hope the population stays strong in Minnesota, so that they are around for generations to come. Its too bad we lost the last of the caribou back in the 80's, lets hope that the moose don't ever suffer the same fate.

Thanks for sharing. Been a long time since I have seen a moose up there.

"Back in the day" I remember kicking one off the latrine trail in an emergency and having one refuse to move on a portage trail even though I was sporting a solid aluminum Grumman canoe helmet.

Hahaha, aluminum helmet:) have never heard that one before. Makes ya kinda wonder what’s going through the mind of moose when they see a canoe headed person just walking down the trail:) thanks for sharing your stories!
