Heading in with the family for 4th of July weekend this year. Never been to the area before and looks like plenty of good opportunities for fishing. Can anyone recommend lakes that are can't miss, or conversely any lakes we shouldn't even bother with?

My oldest son LOVES bass fishing so targeting smallies, but prefer to eat walleye or perch.

If you like northerns there are some 20 pounders in Loon lake, best of luck.

If you want to eat walleyes, Shell, Heritage, and Lynx are all good walleye lakes. If you want to catch bass and northern head to Hustler. Slim is also another good bass lake as well.

I was able to catch walleye pretty damn easy on Shell last July. Mind you this was the the hottest and most humid point of the summer and they were still active.

Little Shell Lake has tons of smallies. A very pretty and quiet lake as well.

We stayed on a site on the north end of Lynx for a few nights and the site on Little shell for 3 nights about 5 years ago. We really liked the area and had decent luck fishing from what I remember. The island sites on Shell lake looked nice from the water but they were occupied when we went by,

Heritage used to have some nice pike and smallies.
