Did a quick overnight on the St. Croix from Interstate Park to St. Croix Wildlands. Did not realize it was Walleye opener on the river. It was beautiful weather and a great little trip but all but one the water campsites was taken by motor boat. Most of which didn't even have the permit. It would be really nice to have a few sites reserved for self propelled water craft. As a lover of small tandem canoes I have to say the old Northstar or newer Polaris is quickly becoming my favorite tandem. I just flies through the water!

I love the St. Croix, but I too have run into that motor boat traffic on the weekends and lawdy, some of them lug everything including the kitchen sink to those campsites simply because they can.

Beautiful boat and nifty hammock.

That stretch of the St. Croix is always our first and last overnight canoe trip every year since we live nearby. While permits are required, I don't think the Park Service has ever enforced that requirement.

During the busy fishing season there is a remote site on Peaslee Lake just south of the Eagles Nest group site that motor boats typically are unable to access due to shallow water. You might check it out next time.

That's were we ended up staying! I'm confident if trees had not been in the way it would have been taken. What a beautiful stretch of river so close to the cities. Looking forward to taking my girls soon.

I miss spoke. It is called St. Croix Islands State Wildlife Area. I've got a buddy who lives a few blocks from there and I can park at his house and portage canoe from there.

Thank you. I've been there on a scouting trip but have not paddled there.

The section of the St. Croix from Interstate Park to Marine is one of my favorite places to paddle. Haven't had too much of an issue with motor boats. Of course weekdays are the best. The St. Croix Islands State Wildlife Area is on my list to paddle.

Took my daughter in there April of last year. It's pretty cool when flooded in the Spring.
