Just got back from a trip into Thomas from Snowbank. We took a day trip to Raven on May 19, 2021. Portage from Roe into Raven was easy to find, and shorter than the map said, probably about 10 rods at most. Then we were into a twisty narrow stream that took us about 30 minutes to get through. We had a 17’ 6” Wenonah Escape and an 18’ MNII. The half foot on the Escape really helped! Got to the end of the stream and had to pull over the bog for about 100 yards, then a 10 yard mud pit befor hitting the portage through the cedar forest. This portage was roughly 50 rods. If you want to know what the Quetico is like, just take this portage. I felt like I had been transported across the border on the portages into Sarah Lake! Made it into Raven. Nice big rock area at the end of the portage, would be a good place to camp. Raven was a pretty lake. We felt like we were near the top of the watershed, almost had an alpine feel to it. Paddled across to the old campsite location, caught a 16” lake trout on the paddle over. Didn’t see any good place for a campsite, but we didn’t land the canoes either. The north shore is growing back from a fire. Headed back across and back to our Thomas lake campsite. Slayed some Walleyes on Sagus on the way home.

Sweet! Please post back on here so we can hear how your trip was. I'm not sure about the rules on campsites, but the end of the portage into Raven ends in a big rock outcropping. So technically, the portage ends there, but it isn't the whole portage. It was a sweet spot for a campsite, but again, check the rules. It's a pretty lake.
