For those receiving permit cancelation notices due to the emergency closure:

What was the date and EP of your permit?

What was the date you were notified of its cancellation?

Were there any specific suggestions of "other recreational areas of the Forest that do not require BWCAW quota permits to ensure they still have the opportunity to experience the Forest and its remote lakes safely," as mentioned in the original Mudro closure announcement?

I'm trying to get an idea of the timing of possible notice re: our Sunday August 1 permit. I'm hoping that it won't simply be batches of notices sent out each Saturday, meaning we wouldn't hear officially until the day before.

Received our cancellation notice last night for EP16 on July 21st. And yes, the language was similar to your fourth paragraph about alternatives. Luckily our outfitter was able to snag a permit for Trout and is trying to arrange a tow through Vermillion. Hopefully the tow comes through as 5/6 of our group have only one BWCA under their belts.

Here is a copy of the email I received on July 17 at 7:15pm CT for our July 22 entry at EP16 - Moose/Portage River N. There were a bunch of embedded links in the second paragraph. Nowhere in the email was there any information identifying me, my permit, or my entry, which is why I (and others) were initially confused about whether or not it was real. I received a refund confirmation about an hour later. And then I think the official FS closure notice went out an hour after that.

A full refund is currently processing for your BWCAW permit reservation due to wildfire closures. No action is required, you will automatically receive a cancellation notification from recreation.gov once processing is complete. Entry points on the Tofte and Gunflint Ranger Districts and entry points in the Trout Lake Unit of the BWCAW (located south of the Echo Trail/Forest Road 116) are not affected by this closure order. For those wishing to rebook permits for entry points with quota still available, visit Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Superior National Forest - Recreation.gov and click on “Explore Available Permits” or contact your BWCAW cooperator. Additionally, there are 254 backcountry campsites outside the wilderness that offer remote paddling, camping, and fishing where you can experience solitude without reservations, fees, or permits and still have a latrine and fire grate (campfire ban in effect for Superior National Forest). Visitors must follow the same Leave No Trace principles listed on page 5 of the BWCAW Trip Planning Guide.
