My previous personal best walleye of 25.75" stood for almost six years before I was able to break it twice in one day.

On a hot, stagnant, windless day in late July, I took a day trip to an Ely area lake and found them shallow, feeding in 12-15' of water. I caught pig smallmouth, hungry northerns and a few giant walleyes. In this video, you get to watch me land a 24, 26.5 and 28.5" walleye in addition to a half-dozen smallmouth over 17", the largest going 19".

How about you guys/gals? What are your personal best walleyes and how did you catch them? I never expected my largest walleyes to be caught on a 1/8 oz green jighead with a medium leech on a hot day in July...I would like to hear your stories! I will be trolling big crankbaits over deep water this fall to try to break that 30" mark...we will see how it goes.

1st 30 inches was a on a Rapala silver/black taildancer trolling on breaks on Brent. Mid day, early August. Clear blue sky. Hit so hard the canoe stopped. My brother in law doesn’t fish…as soon as I started fighting it I said oh yea this a big walleye. He replied there is no way you can tell. Big dog walleyes don’t move when ya set the hook. They go deeper, come up a little then dig down again. When he finally surfaced my BIL said…that thing is prehistoric…

2nd was on Basswood on a 20’ reef trolling a minnow rap silver black. Early August lat in the day 3:30-4ish. Clear blue skies. He hit uncharacteristically for a walleye, nailed it, then ran like a northern and stripped line like crazy…eventually settled down into big dogging…got bruise in my gut from wedging the rod there to get leverage in the fight. Just a beautiful strong fish. Thick like a laker can get.

Fun…fun…fun!

Your videos are great to watch BTW…keep upo the good work!

Wow, way to go.
My personal Best was a 20” smallmouth on a Zara Super Spook in June. And a 26” in Ontario on a minnow behind a spinner.

I am sensing a theme for big walleyes: silver/black Rapalas late in the summer...I can't wait to target them this fall!

I love your channel. I've watched about 1/2 dozen or so videos so far. They're all great.

Any chance you can give us some specifics on your transducer/fishfinder mount? I've been to Yak Attack and Ram, and I can't find anything that looks like your transducer arm. Any advice on where to look?

Thanks!

Nevermind! I found some info in the Helix 5 thread.

Still ove the channel, though.

My longest Walleye 32 1/2". I caught it in a very small dead end BWCA lake in late August about 15 years ago. It was a warm, sunny afternoon and I caught her on an 1/8oz jig with a white twister tail. That Walleye just looked old! She was a little thin and more lethargic than I thought she should be. I've caught five other Walleye's over 30", but this one was just different.

I was very surprised to hook a fish this big from a lake less than 100 acres in size. Everything else I have caught in this lake have been under 24 inches, most well under.

You caught the queen walleye! That thing could have been over 25 years old, assuming it grew very slowly being in a small body of water. It's crazy to think about how many monster fish have been caught on such light tackle...

The dog looked a little interested in the first walleye.

What's your battery setup for the finder and what do you get for runtime?

Great vid! Thanks for letting those of who don't live close and can't go as often live vicariously through you. My biggest canoe country walleye was 27", caught on a leech/slip bobber fished from the campsite on Mack Lake in the Quetico back when bait was still legal. Typical- sitting around the campfire at dusk and, "dude, where's my bobber?". I've caught lots of mid- 20's walleyes, but upper 20s have been elusive for me since that big one on Mack.
