I saw this a few days ago on Twitter or Facebook.....the river is closed and some lakes right in that area for the Whelp Lake fire. Said rangers were sweeping the route to get anyone left in there out

Yup herd that on WTIP when I was camped on Phoebe last Monday. I was heading that direction the next day. Changed my plans.

Now they've expanded that closure to include basically everything between Kawishiwi Lake entry and Sawbill. I believe both of those are still open, but the lady chain, Louse R. and other areas in between are closed including Alton. Malberg is in the clear (so far)

Wow, that's a large area. The louse river is one of the few area I've ever felt really removed from civilization. This burn will be good for that area, tho. Too bad it can't just burn the dead stuff.
When we traveled through there in fall 2009 I remember flocks and flocks of geese headed south, loons in groups of more than ten.... And then nothing...no wildlife. We thought we'd get caught in a freak fall snowstorm. It did get cold, windy and rainy but we made it out with a day to spare.
Gosh that was a great trip! Now I have to go page thru my photos and email Bonnie and remind her of that trip. Seems like just yesterday.

Sigh.....
