We have reservations off Seagull in BWCA for 9/21. As a backup, we made reservations on Agnes in Voyageurs.

We have never been to Voyageurs. Can anyone give us some info on Voyageurs and Agnes and the backwoods site on Agnes? Fishing? What the portage is like? How long it might take to paddle from Ash River visitors center to the trail head to Agnes?

We have a shuttle lined up if we need it to the trail head, but are now thinking about bringing kayaks and leaving them at the dock at the trail head while we are on Agnes.

Thanks for any info!

I have been in that area several times, but always by sea kayak. You have two choices of routes from the visitor’s center to Lost Bay. You can either portage across from Lost Lake into Long Slough which connects to Lost Bay, or just go around Round Bear Island into the bay. If the wind is from the west and has been for several hours, you can get some pretty good waves onKabatogama Lake! Take the portage if you want to be sheltered from high wind and waves. Do know that there is a little cove at Ash River Landing for paddlers, you don’t need to launch at the big boat ramp. Good Luck!
