My best friend loved the Boundary Waters and drove from Chicago several times, sometimes on a shoestring budget, beginning over 40 years ago to canoe. His stories and photos tell of his passion for the beauty and love of being on the water...
I am sorry for his loss this year, and I have original maps, photos/kodachrome slides, many books and authors of practical outfitting, literature of the canoe and paddlers including Labrador, and elsewhere. His vintage portage Duluth Pack.
I will ship these to someone who will enjoy them as a single collection. If possible, I would ask only to kindly send me shipping cost.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your good friend. Sounds like an amazing person.

If you can't find anyone to run the scholarship, you could consider contributing the money to YMCA Camp Menogyn (based on West Bearskin Lake for the past 100 years) in his name and designate it to their scholarship fund. They work hard to provide canoe and backpack trip opportunities to disadvantaged youth and the scholarship fund is a critical component.

Hello, Tomo,
Apologies for the delay, I wanted to put together photos and shipping costs. There was a person who had phoned, but has not called me back, so if you want the items I will send. Estimated cost of 30 lbs. book box is $33-38 and second box with Duluth pack and rolled charts maybe $12-15. I can include a self-addressed envelope you can just mail back with shipping cost when you receive the shipment from me.
Here are photos:

Hi, Straighthaired Curly,
Thank you for the kind comments. I am happy for suggestion on the YMCA, and will send them my contribution in the name of my friend. His name is Don Hakanson if anyone in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area cares to add to the Y’s scholarship. Thanks!

Hello Bryan many thanks for your inquiry; the first fellow who’d written ended up taking the collection. Thanks to everyone who left a comment here, much appreciated.
