Does anyone know what is going on with RABC permits for 2022? I'm trying to plan my first Quetico excursion and want to enter from BWCA. Will that happen next year?
Any information would be appreciated

I'd call the ranger station in Thunder Bay to find out, but it may be too early. The Canadian government may not be ready to make that call (i.e. whether to issue the RABCs for next year or not). Maybe try calling closer to December?

I doubt they issue RABCs while still requiring test results within 3 days of entering country. Don't like to be pessimistic but expect the test requirement will continue well into next year at least.

The Canadians also require proof of vaccination for entry. I wonder if they are worried getting a copy in the mail with the RABC application is easier to forge? As billconnor stated though having a negative COVID test prior to entry is probably the biggest hurdle.

The current system, ArriveCAN, requires that one submit proof of vaccination by uploading photos of his/her vaccination card to the app. The ArriveCAN app also collects phone number, pasport numbers, addresses, etc. Oddly enough, we were not required to upload negative test results to the app. When we crossed the border, our passports, vaccination cards, and test result docs were examined. Test results, however, could be uploaded as easily as our vaccination cards were, so perhaps ArriveCAN could be tweaked to allow "water" border crossings as well as "land" crossings.

Each state appears to have slightly different approaches to the cost and availability of COVID tests. Our home state of NC offers a variety of free tests, many of which provide quick results yet are accepted by Canada.

Agreed, I doubt they will issue an RABC while requiring covid test/vaccination.

The link to the RABC CANPASS site below. This is where I would check for updates. As others have eluded to its unlikely CBSA will start accepting applications until things are back to “normal”.
