I feel a weakness coming on... :-o
The coupon code was good on the hybrid pack that I just ordered (our 3rd Pioneer, a short torso this time). I noticed that it's also good on rope and might be offered on some other things, too, but I didn't take the time to experiment with mixing a lot of other items in my cart.
The code does NOT apply to the 1.1 oz tarp nor Ridgeline stuff sack which I yet covet... :-(
I appreciate the heads up! One of the reasons I registered for virtual Canoecopia last March was for the discount on CCS equipment, but it's limited to what Rutabaga has in stock, and they had no short torso packs... Thanks again.
And, THANKS, Dan!

Lawnchair107: "Is this your first pack in short torso? I’d love to hear your feedback on this. My guide sits low on me and have been wondering the short torso style."
For my wife. I think Dan has said it's a difference of 4 inches. We shall see.

The short torso Packs have 2"less distance from the hip belt sleeve to the place where the shoulder straps are sewn to the pack. For people with shorter torso lengths it allows the shoulder straps to rest on top of the shoulders. This amount of shortening of the torso length holds true for the Explorer, Pioneer, and Guide packs.
The youth packs have a torso length equivalent to the adult short torso, some adults have found our Adventurer Youth Pack as a perfect fit for them.
The Short Torso Guide pack would have 4 more inches above the shoulder straps than the Pioneer Standard Torso Pack

Read the REI how to fit a Framed backpack- link below
Key points to take away that apply to CCS Packs.
1. It all starts with fitting the hip belt in the correct position on your body. See article for how to identify it on your body..
2. The Shoulder straps need to be able to rest on the top of your shoulders.
3. The sternum strap keeps the shoulder straps in position left to right so they do not slide off your shoulders.
4. The load lifters above the top of the padded shoulder straps keep the pack close to your body.
5. The last straps to tighten are the load stabaliser straps- the 1" webbing straps on the hip belt- They anchor the pack to your hips.
6 Loosen the straps in item 4 and 5 when you take the pack off- and when you put the pack on next time secure them properly. They MUST be loosened fully each wearing cycle or you will just bunch up you straps and the pack will not be comfortable.
REI torso length explaination
When I make a short torso the packs body size does not change. The hip belt stays in the same location relative to the bottom of the pack. If you would raise the sewn position of the hip belt in relationship to the body of the pack the pack will make walking more uncomfortable.
The sewn position of the shoulder strap moves down 2" on a short torso CCS pack.
Full on Backpacking Packs made with adjustable should strap positioning, usually have a range of adjustments.

Awesome news and perfect timing. We were just talking about getting little Bruin his first CCS pack for his birthday. The ducklings each got their pink rucksacks when they were 3 and are still using them at 16 and 14.
Looks like I’m ordering a bush crafter or wanderer today.
