Anyone ever go in pre fishing opener and chase crappies? Any suggestions on locations?

We went in on fishing opener last year and it was a complete circus...evening picking a route that's not a super popular fishing destination didn't get us away from crowds.

I did it a decade or so back in April when there was a super early ice out.
Was able to find some crappies and sunnies.
Same area this past October where I couldn't find a walleye in the warm water conditions but got into a nice school of suspended crappies. Caught about a dozen and kept one for the pan.

The only relevant knowledge I have in regards to crappie fishing is I've always done really well for crappies while night fishing. If you're a night owl, or can manage a mid-day nap, try a rattletrap or live minnows when the moon is up.
