I've been trolling around here a lot waiting on the 26th to come around. One thing that I started looking at was the fry bake and getting one for our trip. So I did what everyone does, and went down the Youtube rabbit hole and found a video of someone that used their fry bake as a pot for making Banana Pudding.

Which got me thinking, is it worth it to rehydrate banana chips to put in banana pudding? Or is is something that just works out better in my head and not in real life.

Thanks,
Matt

How many bananas would you need? A banana or two doesn't seem that difficult to bring in as is..

Banana chips are processed from really green bananas- they don't really have all that much flavor (its why they coat them with sugar). I've occasionally stumbled on dried bananas, about the moisture level of dried apricots, they can be incredibly delicious and would be worth considering.

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. I was hoping there was an easy answer and straighthairedcurly might have it. I’ll give those a try next time I’m at Trader Joe’s.

I’m late to the game.

I dehydrate bananas every year.
I use ripe bananas sliced and put in a food dehydrator.

To rehydrate, I put them in a zip lock and add warm (130’) water and let them rehydrate. Takes maybe 20 minutes. They come out perfect and taste great. I put them on everything breakfast related.

Mmm. Banana pancakes. We have them all the time at home. I will have to try dehydrating some for next time. We always hope for blueberry pancakes, but haven't found any the last couple of trips. I think the drought last year did them in.

What sort of texture do they rehydrate too?

I found some unsweetened freeze dried Banana Slices at Trader Joe’s. They are exactly what I was looking for. I’m playing with the best way to rehydrate them, and I will let everyone know when I figure it out. They also have freeze dried strawberries, and I’ve started adding those to strawberry cake, makes it so much better. For anyone interested, I use the whole bag, before adding to the mix break up the big pieces and then add a 1/4 cup more milk than box directions, when you mix in the freeze dried pieces, fold them in after you have used the mixer. The cake comes out with a great strawberry flavor and actual chunks of strawberries. Really elevates the box cake mix up.
