Anybody know if dogs teams have been running the Snowbank-Thomas winter trail? Heading there in 11 days to poke around for 4 or 5 days. Thanks….

Unfortunately I don't have any information for you. Was kind of curious about the same - I would probably go sometime in March though if the conditions were right.

I hope someone comments for both of us.

I'll be heading into Dissapointment tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find when I get back.

The winter trail into Thomas has not been broken. We had easy travel across Snowbank, broke the portage into Parent, found some slush midway on Parent, and we camped on Dissapointment. We didn't make it across to the portage going east.

We had a great trip, but it is tough going in some spots. Yesterday morning was so cold that our tobaggans pulled hard across the snow-even on packed trails.

Thanks for the intel! Some absurd temps I saw posted from Ely area folks. Glad you had a nice trip. Might not be the year for a Thomas excursion.

Yup, I am faily certain we broke our previous record of -37* Friday and Saturday night.

I know I had to zipper up my WM Puma around 4:00am Saturday which I usually don't have to do no matter how cold it is.

That’s a great shot, and congrats on setting a new low record.

Incredible picture!

What is the illuminated thing in the far back right?

That is an improvised shelter for two guys who joined up with us on Saturday. We had packed an area down with showshoes the day before and were able to slice up snow blocks with a Silky saw. We then put up a tarp over the blocks and lit it with a couple of beeswax candles. It reminded me of being a kid again!
