Planning to get a brimmed waterproof hat for our trip this year for those rain days. The Outdoor Research sombrero seems like a safe, reliable option but, if I knew more about other hats, I might go with one of them...Tilly or Stetson for example.

Which waterproof brimmed hat do you have and why would you recommend it for a canoe trip?

Thanks all

I have a Tilley and I really like it. Pretty much bulletproof and comfortable. I am sure there are other great hats out there but here is another reason for getting a Tilley:

From their website:
Most Tilley hats and some apparel items are Guaranteed for Life against normal wear and tear, imperfect workmanship or faulty material. If your hat experiences any of these issues and has the designated “Guaranteed for Life” label, please submit your request by selecting and completing the form below. Next steps will be provided within 1-3 business days.

Plus they look good:)

Get whatever hat you like. Make sure it looks cool. Then when it rains, use this and you will look dorky but stay dry.

I have a couple Tilley hats. I use the one that is lighter in the warmer weather. During cold weather I use a Outback trading hat. It’s made from cotton and is treated with wax. I wash it when it get dirty and and retreat it with paraffin wax.

I'm a Tilley fan, too. Great product, well made, and with a full rain suit, the hat completes the rainproofing.

I'm a firm believer in most everything Filson.

I have a Filson Tin Cloth Bush hat, it's stiff enough to stay on your head and nudge branches away from your face while walking in dense brush, keeps the sun off your neck, creates a surprisingly large shadow everywhere you go, keeps the rain off, holds on in pretty high winds, overall a win in my book.

Kinda spendy for hat, though - imho.

And if you're a cheap SOB. It works, and held up fine for a 30 day Alaska trip, where it rained half the time: Frogg Toggs hat

I used to bring waterproof hats until one trip I took my waxed cotton hat. Yes it was waterproof but also it was extremely hot. Did not breathe at all. Be advised.

I have a Tilley as well and wear it a lot while tripping. I recently picked up this Outdoor research rain hat, modeled on the classic Sou'wester: Goofy hat

I haven't worn it on the trail, but so far I like it. The front is a little more stiff-brimmed and the back is more loose and floppy. Meant to shed rain, packs up to almost nothing. My wife and kids think it's ridiculous, but I like it.

That is what I currently use.

I had an Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero. Worked fine in the rain but was like a solar collector in the sun. Used only one trip. Still in the gear locker as evidence of bad decision made. Whatever hat you get I suggest the lightest color possible to reduce sun cooking of da brain.

Outdoor Research Ghost Rain Hat. Sadly discontinued, but you can still find them from time to time with a good web search. Why? It's convertible and waterproof, fits well, performs great.

I concur that the OR brimmed hat, like the one in my photo, can get a bit stuffy in hot sunny weather. It is much better suited for cooler season trips.

Needed to hear this one, especially because I already have a nice Herschel hat.

Already spent a few extra unplanned bucks on fishing gear.

Crushable wool Stetson or similar. Can roll and pack, looks great, and it naturally water repellent, but with a little waterproofing spray it can be totally waterproof. I have the Stetson Santa Fe.
