I have never taken a September trip usually just heading out on the opener. This year I have been planning a mid September trip due to scheduling with a buddy hoping to get him hooked on going up with me every year. For those of you that have fished the fall do you feel like its a pretty decent trip compared to fishing the opener?
By that time the weather has started to cool down and hoping that it has the fish biting a little better. Any suggestions on fishing that time of the year or anything different I should consider to bring compared to earlier in the season?

I enjoy fall fishing. There's nothing better than opener, in my opinion, but fall fishing is a lot of fun. It would be helpful to know more about what you are hoping for...what entry point? What type of fish are you targeting? Do you have preferred fishing strategies?

In the fall I do a lot of trolling as I enjoy seeing the changing leaves and other scenery. In the evenings I really like topwater approaches along the shores. Depending on the species in the lake I'm fishing I'll adjust my lures or flies.

There are a lot of people on this website who are expert fishers. I'm more of the casual fisher who pretends to be good! You can also search the message board for plenty of late season tactics. QueticoMike will share several articles with you if you email him - I've found those to be very helpful.

Mid-sept fishing is much different than spring fishing. You might get lucky and hit the week or two where fish move into the shallows, but more likely, they will be deeper.

Take a depth finder and check with the locals before you enter to find the depth people have been finding the fish on humps or points. Our trip had the Walleyes in 15 to 18 feet of water. Minnow and jigs were the ticket. If we were not at that depth, we got skunked.

Search the areas at the right depth and you will enjoy a great week. Fewer bugs and people.

We will be primarily fishing on the trip. Heading into Snowbank and up don’t really plan on making a solid plan on where we will end up but probably going to spend the first day or so getting into where we will base camp. Probably concentrating on walleye and smallmouth mostly but mostly just fishing for whatever we come across. We will probably do quite a bit of trolling and trying top water in the morning and evenings. Not really setting anything solid as we both just plan to enjoy a good week or so if fishing and relaxing.
I didn’t know if anybody had any suggestions on what might work better that time of the year. Trying to cut down on the amount of tackle from what I normally take and wanted some tips on what to concentrate on.

There is incredible brook trout fishing to be had in mid-September.

mid sept. can definitely be a tricky time , been up there early sept. and killed the lakers another trip late sept. couldnt catch 1.
colder the water gets the better the brookie fishing, Oct would be more prime and for colors.
